Unit 4 "LIVING THINGS”

* Cells
are basic units of life.
* All
living things are made up of cells. (Todos los seres vivos están formados por
células).
* Cells
carry out the three basic life processes: nutrition, reproduction
and sensitivity.
* Living
things can be classified into unicellular (made up of a single cell)
and multicellular (made up of many cells).
* Cells
are very small, buth they can still differ in size and in shape.
* The
three main parts of a cell are membrane, nucleus and cytoplasm.
* Animal
and plant cell have some differences: (Las
células animales y vegetales tienen algunas diferencias):
- Plant cells have a rigid cell wall around the
membrane.
- Plant cells have chloroplasts. (Las células vegetales tienen cloroplastos).
- Plant cells are usually bigger than
animal cells and have a regular shape.
* Groups
of the same type of cells join together to form tissues.
formar tejidos).
*
Fertilization occurs when a sperm cell join with an ova. (La fecundación sucede cuando un espermatozoide se
une con un óvulo).
* Some
animal tissues are: bone tissue, nervous tissue, muscle tissue, fat tissue,
blood tissue and epithelial tissue. (Algunos
tejidos animales son: tejido óseo, nervioso, muscular, adiposo, sanguíneo y
epitelial).
* Some
plant tissues are: dermal tissue, ground tissue and vascular tissue. (Algunos tejidos vegetales son: tejido epidérmico,
parénquima y tejido conductor).
