Unit 7 "THE EARTH” En esta unidad estudiaremos las características de nuestro planeta Tierra, sus continentes y océanos y los puntos cardinales. En esta ficha se recoge el vocabulario y las estructuras que el alumnado debe aprender junto con unos enlaces de vídeos que serán de utilidad para repasar los contenidos estudiados.

STRUCTURES
* The surface of the Earth is covered with water and land. The Earth is surrounded by a layer of air. (La superficie de la Tierra está cubierta de agua y tierra. La Tierra está rodeada de una capa de aire). * There are oceans and continents on Earth. (Hay océanos y continentes en la Tierra). * Oceans are very large areas of salt water. (Los océanos son extensas áreas de agua salada).  * The continents are very large areas of land. (Los continentes son grandes áreas de tierra). * The points of the compass are North, South, East and West.  (Los puntos cardinales son cuartro: norte, sur, este y oeste).

STRUCTURES
•     Everything around us that takes up space is made up of matter. •     There are different types of matter. Each type of matte is a substance. All objects have two properties: * MASS is the amount of matter in an object. It is measured in kilograms. •                    * VOLUME is the amount of space an object occupies. It is measured in litres. •     Matter exists in three states: solid, liquid and gas. Solids have fixed shape and fixed volume. Liquids have fixed volume but their shape can change. Gases do not have a fixed shape nor a fixed volume. •     Physical changes: matter changes size and shape but the substance stays the same. •     Chemical changes: the substance is transformed into another different substance. •     MELTING: a solid is heated and changes into a liquid. •     EVAPORATION: a liquid is heated and changes into a gas. •     CONDESATION: a gas cools and changes into a liquid. •     SOLIDIFICATION: a liquid is cooled and changes into a solid.
