Unit 1 "ROCKS AND LANDSCAPES” En esta unidad estudiaremos las capas terrestres; las rocas, los minerales y su uso. En esta ficha se recoge el vocabulario y las estructuras que el alumnado debe aprender junto con unos enlaces de vídeos que serán de utilidad para repasar los contenidos estudiados.

STRUCTURES
* Rocks form the solid part of the Earth. (Las rocas forman la parte sólida de la Tierra). * All rocks are different. Some are hard and others are soft. (Todas las rocas son diferentes. Algunas son duras y otras blandas). * Rocks can be classified into igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic. (Las rocas pueden ser clasificadas en magmáticas, sedimentarias o metamórficas). * Rocks are used for many different things: obtaining energy, making construction materials and industrial uses. (Las rocas se usan para diferentes cosas: obtener energía, fabricar materiales de construcción y usos industriales). * The Earth is made up of three layers: atmosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere. (La Tierra está hecha de tres capas: atmósfera, hidrosfera y geosfera). * The geosphere is the solid part of the Earth. (La geosfera es la parte sólida de la Tierra). * We live on the Earth's crust. It is made up of rocks. It is divided into continental crust (under the land) and oceanic crust (under the oceans). (Vivimos en la corteza de la Tierra. Está hecha de rocas. Se divide en corteza continental (bajo la tierra) y corteza oceánica (bajo los océanos)). * The relief of the Earth changes because of the weathering: rain, wind and changes in temperature.  (El relieve de la Tierra cambia debido a la erosión: lluvia, viento y cambios en la temperatura).

STRUCTURES
* The Sun is the star at the centre of our solar system. (El Sol es la estrella que está en el centro de nuestro sistema solar). * Eight planets go around the Sun. (Ocho planetas giran alrededor del Sol). * The four inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. (Los cuatro planetas internos son Mercurio, Venus, la Tierra y Marte). * The four outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. (Los cuatro planetas externos son Júpiter, Saturno, Urano y Neptuno). * Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. (Júpiter es el planeta más grande en el sistema solar). * Mercury is the smallest planet. (Mercurio es el planeta más pequeño). * The Earth rotates on its invisible axis. It takes one day and this rotation causes the day and night.  (La Tierra rota en su eje invisible. Tarda un día y esta rotación da lugar al día y la noche). * The Earth also revolves around the Sun. It takes 365 days and this rotation causes the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. (La Tierra también gira alrededor del Sol. Tarda 365 días y este giro da lugar a las cuatro estaciones: primavera, verano, otoño e invierno) * The Moon is the Earth´s satellite. (La Luna es el satélite de la Tierra). * Globes and maps represent the Earth. (Los globos terráqueos y los mapas representan la Tierra).
