Unit 2
"THE NERVOUS SYSTEM”

·
The nervous system receives information from the five senses organs,
then analyses and interprets this information
·
The nervous system is made up of millions of nerve cells called
neurons
·
The nervous system is made up of two parts: the central nervous system
and peripheral nervous system.
·
Parts of the central nervous system: the cerebrum, the cerebellum and
the brain stem.
·
The peripheral nervous system is made up of nerves which carry
messages to and from the central nervous system.
·
Voluntary movements are actions that we perform consciously. We are
aware of them and can start and stop them as we wish, for example, walking or
reading.
·
Reflex movements are automatic movements that we make without thinking
about them. In many cases, they are movements to protect us from being hurt
in dangerous situations.
·
In order to look after our nervous system, we need to sleep. Sleep
allows our body to rest and our brain to sort and store information.
