NATURAL SCIENCE                                 5th GRADE

Unit 2 "THE NERVOUS SYSTEM”

·      The nervous system carries out the function of sensitivity.
·      Voluntary movements are actions that we perform consciously. We are aware of them and can start and stop them as we wish, for example, walking or reading.
·      Reflex movements are automatic movements that we make without thinking about them. In many cases, they are movements to protect us from being hurt in dangerous situations.
·      In order to look after our nervous system, we need to sleep. Sleep allows our body to rest and our brain to sort and store information.

The main two layers of the atmosphere are:
The troposphere, the lower layer of the atmosphere. It contains the air that we breathe. Weather occurs in this layer. The stratosphere is the upper layer. It contains very little oxygen and the ozone layer that protect us from the harmful rays of the Sun

There are many different climates on Earth. the climates depend on:
·         Distance of the Equator
·          Other factors: mountains, coast..

HOT CLIMATES: high temperature and it rains a lot.
Typical vegetation is forest. Further away from Equator,
it rains less. Typical vegetation is savannahs or desert.

COLD CLIMATES: the zones near the North and South Poles. It rains very little and it snows and it is very cold. Typical vegetation is tundra.

TEMPERATE CLIMATES: In some places it rains a lot and in other it rains a little .Typical vegetation is woodland and grassland.
